The department of Music is located on the second floor of
Gaither Hall, which features the beautiful Gaither Chapel. An
excellent acoustical setting, the 64-year-old stone and glass
chapel is the main performing hall for all choral groups, solo
recitals, and concerts. The Fellowship Hall in Gaither serves as
an important smaller venue for special musical occasions.
The Chapel of the Prodigal also offers a splendid acoustical
environment and hosts the largest Allen organ in an educational
institution in North Carolina.
Organ students learn on Montreat College's Baroque
tracker-style Beckerath organ and the new Allen Digital
Electronic Organ in the Chapel of the Prodigal.
Eight digital workstations challenge and stimulate students
taking classes in Music, Visual Art, Spanish or French.
The
Fine Arts and Languages computer lab is a state-of-the-art
facility that contains computerized materials for instruction in
music reading, sight-singing, ear training, and orchestration.
There is also a scanner for scanning music for importing into a
MIDI program for use with MIDI keyboards. The main campus
computer lab provides students much of the same software and
access to the Internet to assist in research and learning.
Gaither Choral Room is a multi-purpose facility that provides
teaching and rehearsal space for college music and drama groups.

The College offers a number of new, well-lit, sound-isolated
practice rooms. Most are equipped with a new Yamaha piano.
