photograph was sent to Mrs. Crosby Adams by Edward MacDowell's wife Marian. Mrs.
Adams raised funds to establish and maintain the artist colony that Edward and
Marian MacDowell started. Mrs. Adams and Mrs. MacDowell were friends and
corresponded frequently."
