7The Unrevised Student

When should revision occur?

If a student finishes a first draft early enough, the best practice is to put it aside for several days to a week before beginning to revise. However, even several hours away from it can help him see places that need to be clarified or restructured.

While some writers may revise while composing, in most cases revision is a separate step that occurs after a draft is written.
